Márton Bene and Xénia Farkas gave presentation at the 24th Annual Conference of the Hungarian Political Science Association in Budapest in June. The papers’ title: “Political communication on the social media platforms in the Hungarian parliamentary elections’ campaign, 2018.”

Xénia Farkas gave presentation on the 4th Conference for Doctoral Students of Political Science in Budapest. The title of the presentation: Visuals of Politics: Visual Political Communication on the Social Media Platforms in the Hungarian Elections.

Balázs Kiss participated in CEECOM 2018-on (11th Central and Eastern European Communication and Media Conference) in May/June in Szeged, south of Hungary. His paper: Vertical to Horizontal to Central. Space Metaphors in Hungarian Politics for the Last Thirty Years.

Balázs Kiss gave two presentation at the 24th Annual Conference of the Hungarian Political Science Association in Budapest in June. The papers’ titles: “The Chances of the Character Assassin. Attempts to Discredit Political Leaders During the 2018 Electoral Campaign” and “’Campaigns by the books’ – Campaigns and Campaign Manuals in the World and in Hungary.”

Balázs Kiss gave presentation at the 8th midterm conference of the European Sociological Association’s Sociology of Emotions Research Network (RN11). The title: Fear and Care. The emotional management of the migration crisis in Hungary.

Balázs Kiss presented his paper „Dramatic to Post-Dramatic in politics and popular culture” at the conference „Rethinking Theories and Concepts of Mediated Communication” organized by the University of Missouri and held in September in Barcelona, Spain.

Balázs Kiss gave presentation on the methods used in the project “Political Communication in Hungary, 1990 to 2015” at the conference “Social Science as Social Semiotics: Bridging Theories, Methods and Practices” in Kaliningrad, Russia in September.

Joining the ECPR General Conference (August 22 – 25, 2018) a panel titled ’Networked Publics in the Age of Hybridity’ was organised and chair in Hamburg (Germany) by Gabriella Szabó. In addition, Gabriella represented the Centre for Political Communication with two paper presentation, one was about Twitter and political polarization with Paweł Matuszewski (Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw) and the other paper discussed the political information flow in media space in Hungary.

Gabriella Szabó was the member of the Scientific Committee of the European Sociological Association’s Research Network ‘Political Sociology’ which organised the Conference ‘Fragile Europe’ between November 2-4, 2018 in Prague, Czech Republic.
