A kutatás a kisebbségek migrációjára, mobilitására és kultúrájára összpontosít Közép-Európában és a Balkánon. A kutatás célja az ott élő kisebbségek történelmi és kortárs diaszpóráinak, valamint az ehhez kapcsolódó migráció és mobilitás tanulmányozása. A másik cél annak tanulmányozása, hogy Közép-Európában és a Balkánon élő csoportok, milyen társadalmi csoporthoz tartoznak. A társadalom többségébe hogyan integrálódnak, hogyan gyakorolják a saját kultúrájuk megőrzésének és kifejezésének jogát, hogyan gyakorolják a sajátját vallásukat és használják nyelvüket.
